Average scuba dive conditions in Costa Maya are friendly and its reef is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier System, the second-largest barrier reef in the world, second to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. You will be able to observe many types of tropical fish, coral formations, and other underwater marine life on this SCUBA diving excursion. The boat has special permits to visit the closer reefs so your travel time is very short.
From your Costa Maya cruise terminal, you will catch a taxi to ride 5 minutes south of the cruise ship pier. You will meet your scuba diving shore excursion guide just inside Blue Kay Eco Resort, the Blue Kay Eco Resort staff is more than happy to show you the way to the dive center.

The reef is just a short distance from the shoreline, when the captain ties off the scuba dive excursion boat, your divemaster will assist you with the gear and go over safety instructions and guidelines. Your dive will be approximately 45 minutes and your maximum depth will depend on your training level (average depths: 50-75 feet) Your divemaster will be at your side the entire time.
There is plenty of time to explore the beautiful marine life below. You will have the chance to see some exciting marine life including giant sea turtles, eels, lionfish, eagles and stingrays, coral formations, and many colorful reef fish. The locations are decided daily by the divemaster depending on the currents and water conditions.
All of our SCUBA Diving equipment is of the highest quality and is regularly maintained by Sherwood-certified technicians; they replace the BCD's and regulators on a regular basis. Safety is the number 1 concern and the quality of their equipment ensures an unforgettable and safe day. All gear is included, including a shortie or long sleeve 3mm wetsuit if desired.
If you add the day pass the fun continues when you return to the shore. You can stay as long as you wish and may use all of the beach club's facilities including lounge chairs, umbrellas, freshwater showers, lockers, kayaks, and more. There is also a full-service restaurant and bar available at extra cost. You may return to your Costa Maya cruise pier at your own leisure and expense.
