      • Bring along comfortable clothes, sunblock, walking shoes, a camera, and cash for souvenirs, snacks, drinks, tips, etc.
      • A variety of boats are used with a maximum of 15 to 35 participants.
      • No tripods or professional movie cameras are allowed inside the ruins. Professional cameras will be charged a USD 50.00 fee at the Mayan ruins.
      • Please note that Belize is a cruise ship tender port, you will not be docked so you should allow enough time to get off the cruise ship.

    There are several boats used depending on group size for that day - ranging from 23 feet to 38 feet (15 to 35 passengers) but larger boats are available.

    Mother Nature is unpredictable but it is typical to see crocodiles, howler monkeys, iguanas, and lots of birds.

    The ruins are about 30 miles away.

    Yes you may climb the main temple as well as one of the smaller temples. This is subject to change at any time by the Belize government.

    Approximately 1 hour. 
    Do I need to take my passport with me on the Belize Altun Ha Mayan Ruins and River Wallace Nature Excursion to show with my Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket?
    No, it is not necessary to take along your passport unless noted by your cruise line or listed in the Restrictions or Notes tab for the excursion. Your local operator has your booking noted. Please arrive with a printed copy of your eticket or digital copy if applicable.

I was apprehensive booking this excursion cause the most recent review said they were turned away cause not enough people showed up. It does clearly say 6 people are required. I purchased 2 tickets and messaged shoreexcursioneer a month before to confirm enough people had booked, they said yes. I checked again 1 week before, they said yes. After arriving we were told we had to wait 45 minutes. After waiting the lady said our guide was on the way and all seemed good. When quite showed he said people cancelled and could no longer do the river cruise. They offered a $20 refund to each of us and was still able to do the ruins and guide will tell us information on the way. We really didn't have much of a choice cause we had now waited over an hour. It was nice cause we were the only people in group, but disappointed we didn't get the river vruise that was purchased. The guides name was Gareth and he was great. They just need to find better way to communicate if the tour has to chance due to cancels cause it could ruins plans. The guide I give 5 stars but disappointed we didn't get what we ordered.

Everything went as expected! It was an excellent tour, with lots of details about the history of Altun Ha, the Jade skull that was found, local wildlife, (watch out for the Cobras! 😉) and the local food! The Chicken of the Trees was fantastic! We were there, and were able to climb to the top of the main ruins, one year ago, and I'm sitting at home reminiscing about our trip! Please, tip everyone well! They are sharing their history with you, they deserve it!

I would not even consider using this tour company again if it were free. After waiting over an hour for our tour to start, we were told that not enough people signed up for the tour, and they were canceling it. Many excuses were given while we waited that hour for the tour. We were led on by Splash Wave while they tried to get more people to sign up. In the end, we wasted over an hour in port, and had to scramble to find something else to do. Extremely dishonest and untrustworthy company!

I just went here last week and had a great time!!! Will definitely do it again. I did buy a Heart shaped Maghonay wood bowl at the ruins from a lady at the market. I would love another one? How can I get one?

Did this same tour through Carnival a year before, but this time I booked here and it was a much better experience. Excursion booked through Carnival was overcrowded and impersonal. Initially there was about an hour delay leaving from the meeting point, but we met several great street vendors, a few of us had our hair braided while we waited, had the best Rum and Coke (lots of rum) for only $5, and had fresh and tasty empanadas (only $1) from a bicycle vendor. Bicycle vendor also had other options for sale. On the river cruise it was only our group of 5. Small but newer boat. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, even tried to retrieve a runaway hat for me. The also allowed us to bring our own drinks on board. Lunch was great, choice of chicken or hamburger with beans and rice, I highly recommend the chicken. Altun Ha Mayan Ruins were impressive but hot, take plenty of refreshments. On the drive home we were in a nice air-conditioned mini van and the staff provided ice cold bottled water and stopped for us and a few local markets to pick up additional refreshments and souvenirs. Garrett was our tour guide, he made for a very memorable day.

I highly recommend booking this tour. We had a tour guide that took the 4 of us to Altun Ha. She pointed out sites along the way and told us all about Belize. Once at Altun Ha she took pictures for us and explained the history of the ruins. After we finished there, she took us to meet our boat to tour the river. We also had the boat to ourselves. We saw iguanas, crocodiles, monkeys and manatees. They paid close attention to the time and made sure to deliver us to the port with plenty of time to catch the tender.

We enjoyed the river ride. We went during the wrong time of year for lots of manatee sighting, but our guide made sure we saw some! We saw tons of iguanas, and he pointed out many other animals along the route. I loved that there were only 6 of us on the boat. Doreen picked us up in our private taxi and took us to the ruins. What a beautiful place! The weather was perfect, and I enjoyed sitting in the sun. My husband had a blast climbing the ruins. We ate lunch on site. Locals cooked us delicious food! After the ruins, Doreen was willing to take us anywhere else we wanted to go. It was just me and my husband. We drove around the city and stopped at various places. This was so much more fun than the giant groups you are in when you book through the ship. Thanks so much Doreen, for the wonderful memories. Hope to see you again when we return!

This was an amazing day, full of fun, food, and fellowship. Our tour guide, Garrett, was awesome. He was so knowledgeable about the country. He answered all of our questions from types of trees they have to how many poisonous snakes they have, down to Belize monetary value and how much people earn who work there. And WOW!!! He can drive!! He got us where we were going in a hurry, but you may want to wear your seatbelt. It was hot, but we enjoyed the Ruins. And the Wallace River was great also. We got to se several crocodiles, monkeys, manatees and it was much cooler riding in the boat. We even got to eat some of the local food and it was delicious!

We had the best time ever with our guide Kamisha. She was so knowledgeable and fun. She catered our day to our needs and showed us everything at our own pace. The river tour was exceptional. We saw crocodiles, bats, birds, monkeys, iguanas. My kids had an exceptional time and she ended the day with lunch at a local restaurant that was delicious. Thank you Kamisha!

We had a great time...wonderful tour guides. Dad even left his camera at the lunch place before the river tour. didnt notice it till we were back at port. Guide called someone and they had him is camera no problems before we had to get back on ship. Wonderful company. We enjoyed all the sites on the river from birds, iguanas, monkeys, dolphins, etc. The Ruins were great could see the entire layout of the property. The vendors there were nice and not to push. Had some great word carved walking sticks, bowls, and stuff.

My wife and I were expecting a small group tour...boy, were we wrong! It turns out, we were the only two that booked this tour on that date. We feared the tour would be cancelled but it wasn't. So the two of us spent the entire day with the tour guide and did what we wanted on our time. What a great way to spend the day! Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our time on this tour. We had spent time doing water activities in another port and we really wanted to see some Mayan Ruins. This was the perfect way to see them too. Our guides were wonderful and so knowledgeable with a lot of fascinating stories. If you truly appreciate these ancient structures like we do, you have take this tour. You will not be disappointed.
