Upon meeting your expert guide at your Puntarenas cruise pier, you will begin your hour-long journey through the beautiful Coast Rican countryside in the comfort of an air-conditioned deluxe vehicle or minibus. Along the way, your knowledgeable local guide will provide an entertaining narrative of history and anecdotes as you pass by mango, coffee, sugar, and citrus plantations, diverse fruit stands, and rural farming communities.

Upon arrival at the scenic property along the Central Pacific Coast and Tarcoles River, you may take the time to visit the restrooms and explore the surrounding area before saddling up your horse. A genuine English-speaking cowboy will greet you and help choose the perfect horse for you based on your experience. Following a brief presentation of instructions, your 2-hour horseback adventure begins using the authentic western saddle. Whether you are a seasoned rider or a first-timer, our authentic, professional guide will keep you safe as you explore the real Costa Rica! You will follow your guide down the trail as they lead you through the jungle.

You will discover a wide array of wildlife including huge crocodiles, scarlet macaws, howler monkeys, and aquatic birds as you venture through mangroves, the rainforest, the beach, and the Tarcoles River. Upon returning to the stables, you will embark on an hour-long river journey to gain an up close and personal look at one of the largest wild crocodile populations in the world. Your boat captain will navigate the special riverboats along the Tarcoles River where you can spot the resident reptiles basking on the banks. Get an up-close yet very safe view of these spectacular creatures. Do not forget your camera for your hour-long boat adventure.

When the river portion comes to an end, you will board your air-conditioned transportation to be returned to your Puntarenas cruise pier.

Excursion Notes

Wear comfortable clothes, and closed-toe shoes are recommended. Long pants will help protect your legs from brush scratches and a more comfortable ride.
Bring insect repellent, sun protection, cash for additional purchases, food, drinks tips, etc.
A liability waiver is required prior to participation.
During the damp season in the rainforest (Sept - Nov) it is recommended to bring a raincoat/poncho.

Excursion Restrictions

Participants must be in adequate physical condition for horseback riding.
The minimum participation age is 12 years and the maximum is 65 years old.
The maximum guest weight is 275lbs (125Kg). Guests will be weighed on site.
Guests who are overweight will not be allowed to participate and will lose all money paid. All others in the group must give 72 hours prior notice to cancel and must pay the balance.
This excursion is not wheelchair accessible or friendly.

The Horseback Riding Excursion can be operated in rain or shine, however, it is the local operator who will decide if the excursion may be canceled due to safety reasons.

For the Puntarenas Beach and Rainforest Horseback Riding with Crocodile Safari Boat Excursion, we issue full refund for your deposit or full payment to us if: Canceled by client prior to excursion date with a minimum of 48 hours prior notice by email to reservations@shoreexcursioneer.com.

Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
Your ship skips/misses the port.
Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
Refunds may be subject to a service charge fee as determined by the payment processor, please refer to Terms and Conditions for more information.

We really enjoyed the horseback riding. We got paired with some beautiful horses, the trail throug the country was amazing. For us the best part of our excursion was the crocodile safari. My boys were so excited. We got really close to them, or at least as close as we could. HUGE!!!

This was the best day ever. Best part of our cruise by far. Start to finish our guide was attentive, accomodating, friendly. The horses are so beautiful and in great shape. We got to take them through the countryside and by the beach. Awesome!!! We got a thrill on the safari, seeing some crocodiles. A little too close for me, but my kids and husband loved it!
