Come face-to-face with a glacier, marvel at huge humpback whales, and top this excitement off with a scrumptious meal featuring wild Alaskan salmon grilled over an alder wood fire. You'll call this combination amazing; we call it the Best of Juneau.
This Juneau Sightseeing Cruise Excursion combo departs from downtown Juneau for the 12-mile drive to the Mendenhall Valley. Your shore excursion driver will share some of the region's history, culture, and outdoor lifestyle during the drive. Upon arrival, you will have free time on your own to stroll one of the numerous self-guided walking trails, and ask questions to the knowledgeable US Forest Service staff. There is also a visitor's center available for a small admission fee (not included) where you can see interactive videos and exhibits. Do not forget your camera, as the outside porch on the visitor's center offers a great perspective of the glacier across the lake. A great adventure sightseeing combo cruise shore excursion from Juneau, Alaska!
Your two-hour wildlife cruise departs from Auke Bay. Your shore excursion captain and onboard naturalist will welcome you aboard The North Star, a state-of-the-art 48-passenger jet boat designed for Juneau whale watching from inside or out on deck. More than 60 humpback whales return from Hawaii to this area each season to feed in nutrient-rich waters. Where some whale watching is done in miles of open ocean, this is a more enclosed area, which increases the possibilities of sightings. Your whale-watch sightseeing excursion captain is so experienced in knowing where to look that they guarantee whale sightings. In fact, if a whale is not spotted you will receive a $100 refund ($50 for children). Binoculars are available for your use onboard. Venture out on the deck to enjoy a panoramic view of your surroundings or to take a photo, or settle into your warm, comfortable interior surroundings to enjoy the scenery and wildlife sightings through the oversized windows.
After your whale-watching cruise, you're off to the Gold Creek Salmon Bake. The Gold Creek Salmon Bake is more than a meal. It is the ultimate Alaskan experience with great food, live music, and fun activities like gold panning, marshmallow roasting, and a nature walk, set in a rainforest alongside Salmon Creek. Here you will dine on Alaskan-caught salmon grilled over an open alder wood fire. In addition, there is Parmesan chicken, cheesy au gratin potatoes, baked beans with reindeer sausage, wild rice pilaf, cornbread, clam chowder, and other sides, salads and beverages, and blueberry cake for dessert. Beer, wine, and soda are available for purchase. After your meal, roast marshmallows over a crackling campfire, visit the Salmon Creek Trading Post, and stroll to the beautiful Salmon Creek waterfall. Take your time; you can return to the dock at your leisure.
