Add some excitement to your Caribbean cruise on the St. Kitts Buggy Adventure and Beach Break Excursion. Drive your buggy through the jungle for some scenic views of the island. Cool off after with a swim at South Friars Bay.
After meeting your English-speaking guide outside of your St. Kitts cruise port you'll be driven to the base camp, about 20 minutes from the port to start your adventure. Experienced and knowledgeable guides will explain the rules and regulations of your Buggy excursion and have you fill out the mandatory disclaimer forms. There are both 2 and 4-seater buggies available. A demonstration of how the buggies operate will be given and your safety gear provided. They are easy to use with a gas pedal and a brake pedal. These UTC buggies are sturdy and rugged. Those 16 years and older with a valid license can choose to drive. You're now ready to hit the trails on this guided excursion of St. Kitts.
You'll drive through the rainforest and sugar cane fields making stops for memorable photos. You'll see Mount Liamigua, a stratovolcano (made up of layers from precious eruptions), that is the highest on the island and one of the tallest in the eastern Caribbean archipelago. The top has a shallow crater lake and often the peak is enshrouded in clouds.
You'll also stop at Brimstone Hill Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is a well-preserved fortress on a hill that was designed by British military engineers but built and maintained by African slaves. Your next stop will be the Old Sugar Estate, Wingfield, built about 100 years ago, was in use as sugar production became the only industry on the island. It hasn't been in use since 2005 but you can see the preserved buildings of the factory today.
There will also be a quick stop at Caribelle Batik with traffic and time allowing.
You'll drive back your buggy to the base camp and your driver will take to South Friars Bay where you can clean up and cool off with a swim after your Buggy ride. This golden sand beach lining the turquoise waters is one of the most popular in all of St. Kitts. It's famous for great swimming, snorkeling, and a number of local beach bars. The stop at the beach is all free time. The pickup time from the beach will be set up according to your cruise ship departure time and pre-arranged with the driver who will drop you off at your St. Kitts cruise pier. For any guests wishing to stay longer at the beach, transportation back to the pier will be at your own expense and risk.
