Hop on your Buggy and set off on the adventure of a lifetime to excellent sightseeing locations and one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of New Providence.
Upon your ship's arrival in Nassau, you will disembark and meet your guide right outside of your cruise terminal. The experienced and certified guides will give you a thorough safety briefing on the Buggy. The Buggy is automatic, so it is easy to drive. There is a maximum of 6 guests per buggy. These are shared vehicles so others may be joining you in the buggy. Driving duties may be switched out during the excursion.
Follow your guide through downtown Nassau and go south on Market Street until you arrive at Gregory Arch, which separates downtown from the rest of the city. This arch is named for Governor John Gregory who served in 1850. Next, make your way to the Government house, which is the official residence of the Governor General of the Bahamas. Originally built in 1806 the stunning Georgia Colonia style home was renovated after a hurricane in 1932. Next, you will stop at Fort Charlotte, a limestone fortress built by Lord Dunmore in 1788. This fort is equipped with 42 cannons, dungeons, a moat and underground passageways!
Heading west out of town, your next site to see will be the Caves, where the Lucayans took shelter. The Lucayans were a largely peaceful, Arawak-speaking native people present throughout the Caribbean before the time of the arrival of Columbus. From the caves, continue westward until you arrive at Gambier Village, one of the oldest villages in all of New Providence. Liberated Africans established this village in the early 1800s after the abolition of the slave trade in all British Territories in 1807.
Next up, the beach! Saunder Beach has facilities available; including a beach bar should you be thirsty. Spend 30-minutes soaking up the sun or swimming before heading back to Nassau. Drive directly to Arwak Cay, an area with various restaurants dating back to 1969. Sit down at one of the oldest restaurants to enjoy your conch fritter appetizer, fish or chicken with peas and rice, macaroni, fried plantain and homemade lemonade. Cruise back to your starting location once you have had your fill of lunch, where you may continue to explore Nassau on your own or return to your cruise ship.
