Had this tour booked for my friend and I. Our cruise ship decided not to stop in Costa Maya because of heavy winds so was not able to do this excursion. I am giving them 5 stars because they refunded the money even though they didn’t have to. I will definitely book again if I ever come back this way.

6 of our family went in October 2023. To get to the meeting point, you leave the port area, and go to the left of the big mayan looking structure. The bus was cool and refreshing, and we got a drink on the way, and on the way back. It was interesting to see how other people live in some of the structures we drove past. Bring Cash, at the site they only take cash, no cards, but do offer fresh fruit, popsicles(most popular), a few food items, and souvenirs. I am glad we went, but will look at other options next time we come through, as the humidity was much higher than I expected. We did get some great pictures, and they are doing a great job of protecting these two sites! The water coming off the ship was amazing in this area, so we will look at a beach option next time we are here!

Carlos was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable, and while shuttle was a bit from the port it was good to get away from the craziness of the port area. The beach was a nice lunch area following to relax after exploring.

We usually book excursions through the cruise companies, but NCL was charging 3 times as much for the exact same excursion, so we booked through Shore Excursioneer. They sent us a map so we can walk to the excursion meeting spot (outside the cruise terminal). It was easy to find. The excursion was great.

Renee our guide was informative, and had lots of background information on the way to the site, and while we were there. Things I wish I had known before this trip, was the tour company name to find them more easily, although the customer service line was fairly quick in getting me help, and at the site they only take cash for any food or items to purchase. The popsicles and fresh fruit were the most enjoyable, as it was very humid. Good to get your insect repellent on as soon as you get out. I was delighted to know that you get to see two large Mayan ruins at this stop, and how carefully they are being preserved. We brought cooling neck towels, which were very helpful. Once in a lifetime trip!

The ruins were very cool and our tour guide was knowledgeable however on the way back to the port, our tour guide was dropped off in town and we were left with just the driver who spoke very little English. We were told the driver (who scared us with his driving. He was driving extremely fast and did not even slow down during a downpour) would take us to the beach (which was not part of the plan) and we would have to get a cab back to the port (10 min away). While the others in the van with us opted to get off at the beach, I was not going to risk missing the ship so we had the driver take us back to the port. I would recommend this excursion itself but not with XXXX who was the tour operator.

Wow what can we say, only 6 of us. Carlos and Javier the driver made this one of the best excursions we have ever been on, loved the ruins and all the knowledge that Carlos shared, the suggestions for Tequila and pineapple were spot on! All round made our short trip to Mexico great.

We had a flat on our way to the ruins. Another driver stopped to help our driver and they refused to allow us to help with the tire change. With all of that happening, we ended up having to do a larger group than originally planned, but Carlos was great at keeping everyone on target and with managing our time to make sure we made it back on time. We were able to stop at a roadside stand and try pineapple with chili salt (awesome). We saw a monkey climbing on the ruins. Plenty of water provided, which was good because it was hot and humid, but plenty of shade and breeze available due to jungle surrounding area.

The descriptions were accurate, the reviews were correct. We had a great time, the port was a little confusing, could do better at describing that you have to completely exit the port, find the map posted and follow directions to exit and then just start saying the tour name you were given, EVERYONE will point you to the right person. Vehicle was clean, A/C worked good, we were given a bottle of water, bring extra if you are a thirsty person, Guide was Fabulous! We just called him "E" because it was too hard to pronounce. Ruins were as expected, got there before the crowd and we seemed to stay ahead of them, we got to climb and take pictures, given history and he even had a backpack full of extras (Binder with pictures & maps, examples of different kinds of stones to touch and hold). Gave us plenty of information on local culture and plants and animals. Very satisfied with this excursion. Got back to port with time to spare!

Had an amazing time on the excursion. Easy directions to get to them once on port. Received a welcome drink. Learned lots of history and even saw some monkeys in the trees. Stopped at a food stand on the way back for delicious food. Highly recommend. Traveled as a family of 6 with 4 children ages 7-12.

Booking Process & Overall This was our 1st of 2 excursions booked on this site for our 23-30 July 2022 Cruise. I've never used the site before but took a chance based on reviews. I have to say, we were quite pleased. Pre-excursion instructions were clear and everything promised about the excursion was accurate. And yes, it's a bit of a walk from the cruise ship to outside the gates to the Pyramid Replica where you meet for the tour. But, as others have said in their reviews, the cruise excursions meet inside the port and others like this one have to meet outside. It's not that big a deal. The Mayan Ruins Excursion We had a fantastic day riding to/from the ruins and being at the site itself. It's a long ride to the site, but with the right guide time flies by. Our guide was Carlos. Carlos was super knowledgeable about the culture of the Mayan people, the locals, and Costa Maya itself. His English was perfect. You could tell that Carlos loved what he did. He was so energetic and interactive when explaining everything. He showed us photos and drawings which he carried in his backpack that helped explain Mayan culture/tradition. He allowed us plenty of time to explore, answered questions, and took photos of each family. (There were a total of 11 people on this excursion. Our family of 3 and 2 others of 4). After the ruins, we stopped in a Mayan village for fresh pineapple, mango, dragon-fruit and cakes. We love that we can help support the locals. And the fruit was sooo delicious; especially after walking up and down huge steps in the humid forest. Overall we were very pleased with the excursion/day. We would definitely recommend this trip. And you can't beat the price either. Thank you Carlos for making our once in a lifetime trip to Costa Maya so memorable!!

This excursion was fabulous from the start. You have to exit the gates of the cruise port, but the staff were so helpful and friendly. We were given complimentary water throughout the day. We experienced and learned about the culture of Costa Maya as we travelled to the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins. Eliseo, our tour guide, was fabulous and very knowledgeable. He knew so much about the ruins. We are very thankful for the small tour. After the tour we stopped at a roadside stand for fresh pineapple, mango, and banana. The fresh fruit was delicious. Try the pineapple with chili powder! We also stopped at Mahanual, a small fishing village, with market and view of the beautiful water. We had a delightful day!

We loved this excursion. The people were very friendly and wanted to please us. Our guide Gustavo was awesome! He was personable and upbeat. We had a great conversation with him on the ride to the ruins and back. He said he loves his job and you can tell! He will take the time to show you many things about the plants and explain how the Myans used them. He also even watched over my husband that has balance issues as he climb the ruin steps. This excursion was the highlight of our trip! The only negative is not their fault. The port will not allow them to post signs on how to navigate to their meeting point outside the port or have a guide inside the port. The port is a maze to keep you contained there and spend your money on higher priced excursions and goods. I bought a Mayan mask replica for half the price of the port at the Ruin sight without being hounded by the seller. Also had the best Tamale from a small vendor there for lunch. I just wish we had more time for the excursion!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with the company that escorted us to & through the Chaccoben Mayan Ruins. Miriam & Lorenzo were terrific! After we made our way through the Cruise Port area(be sure the follow their instructions)to their office, we were warmly greeted by Miriam who registered us and accompanied us on the mini-bus(there were about 10 of us,) to the site of the ruins. She provided interesting commentary all by the way about the local environment, culture and history. The trip took about an hour. The mini-bus was air-conditioned & comfortable and cold water was provided. Even though it was December, it came in handy! Our driver was also friendly and skilled. Our guide through the ruins was Lorenzo - he was AMAZING!! Extremely knowledgeable about Mayan history, culture, architecture, astronomy, the trees and foliage in the area, everything! He patiently answered all questions & made sure we were safe as we climbed some of the ruins(optional.) There were assistants who accompanied our group with water and a helping hand. Fortunately, there were no mosquitoes that day. We got back to the port (with a very brief stop to buy some locally-grown pineapple)in plenty of time to board our ship. Overall a very enjoyable & educational experience!

We had an excellent guide for Chacchoben Ruins! From the ride to the ruins, throughout the ruins, and from the ride back to the ship, the guide spoke knowledgeably about the area and the ruins. He was very patient with us and never rushed us. Our group was pretty small with around 11 people. We saw other cruise-ship-led excursions with groups of at least 30! I used shoreexcursioneer three times on this cruise and was pleased with everything we did. Sure, I might be able to book an excursion with a local guide without going through shoreexcursioneer for a little bit cheaper but why would I? I trust shoreexcursioneer to find the best, most-reliable and dependable tour operators!

The Mayan ruins guide was fabulous as well! Very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend these guys!

We wanted to book local not from ship. They gave us water and beer before leaving for the ride to ruins. During ride Eliscio our tour guide explained a bunch of interesting facts to us. Once there the ruins were amazing! He gave us so much info, was a personal photographer for us, even gave us gun that was made from the gun trees. The ruins have a nice amount of shade btw! Anyway, after wards we stopped for fresh pineapple mangos and dragon fruit (the best) with optional chili powder. Each bag of fruit was only $1! Then we stoppped and sampled local habanero sauces and I got some for $2 each but no pressure to buy! Then it was optional if we wanted to go to fishing town of Mahahual but you should go!!! Prettiest beach area, tourist merch and also organic margaritas from Jose in the beach for $5. We got tacos from locals for cheap and honestly this was the BEST part of our cruise!!! Book this one

The tour guide drove safely providing history and information of the area during the drive to and from the archaeological site. Once at the ruins, the tour guide guided the group to each structure providing great onsite and history. Hands down a great experience everyone needs to experience. The best part is the price was half the cost of the cruise ship, fraction of the people, and overall great customer service.

This tour is amazing. It's a bit of a hike to get to the tour guide location. You have to exit the port (by the chocolate factory) and walk towards the Mayan temple replica. There are plenty of people to point you towards the right direction. Once we arrived we were offered water, soft drinks, and beer. Carlos our guide and Israwl the driver were fantastic. The mayan ruins were amazing. We saw monkeys! We loved our stops in pineapple town, mexican walmart, and the salsa house. We were even offered to go to the fishing village and beach. Others in our group wanted to go directly to port so we missed out on the beach. This tour is a lot of walking and climbing. If you have mobility issues, I wouldn't recommend it. You must try the tamales as well once you get to the ruins. Delicious! I would take this tour again!!

This was the first excursion we've booked outside of the cruise line so we were very cautious. I can safely say I'll be booking more outside excursions!! We had a little trouble finding the meeting point at first. The description didn't really match where we were going. Head out of the main gate and head towards the replica mayan ruins and you'll see the meeting spot. The people from (the local operator) were fantastic. Our drivers were amazing and the tour of the ruins was well worth the drive. They had plenty of water for us to drink (thankfully!). On our way back, the driver stopped at a roadside stand so we could buy fresh pineapple, mangos and papaya. Never had pineapple with chilli powder before! So good! They dropped us in the town for a couple of hours so we went and had a snack at one of the beach restaurants. (We even picked up a bonus Geocache that we didn't think we'd get!). They picked us up right on time and took us back to the port. I would definitely recommend this excursion! Thanks for making our first trip to Costa Maya enjoyable.

Had a great time on this excursion. Tour guide was excellent, never rushed and learned a lot about the local area. Local food at the ruins and the pineapple from the roadside stand was excellent. Only challenge was finding the meeting spot. It is a ways outside the port marketplace; the 100 yards past the security checkpoint that is referred to on your ticket is outside the compound.

Honestly, Carlos and Israel were the reasons this excursion was so great. They were informative, engaging, and non-stop funny. We learned so much about the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins and the Mayan civilization. If you go, you definitely have to try the pineapple with the chili powder. It tasted amazing. The banana bread and mango was amazing as well. Your taste buds will thank you. All the beer and snacks along the way only cost a dollar each. This is a great family excursion. Getting through the port and to the meeting spot was a little confusing but everyone who worked in the port knew where it was and were able to direct us.
