Come to discover the rich culture of Guatemala, explore, and enjoy the city and stores accompanied by a professional, English-speaking guide. You will meet with your guide just outside your Puerto Quetzal Cruise Terminal. Hop aboard the air-conditioned transport for a 90-minute scenic ride.

You can capture lovely views along the way of the local volcanoes as well as the lush rainforest and the hills of the countryside while your guide provides a professional narrative about the highlights of the area. Keep an eye out for the coffee farms dotting the hillsides along the way. Guatemala is the second largest producer of coffee in the world and you'll have the opportunity to try some out later in the day.

Then, once you are in the city itself, you will see many examples of wonderful Spanish Baroque architecture. Make sure to have your camera, you'll have lots of opportunities to capture the colors of Antigua City, which has earned a UNESCO World Heritage Site award and you'll understand the importance of the Guatemalan culinary heritage.

One of your stops would be the Capuchinas Convent, its construction began in 1731 and it was officially opened in 1736. The "retirement tower" has a circular shape and it was unique in colonial times. After the earthquake in 1773, the convent was closed and the building has had different usage, nowadays it's a museum. Then you will continue walking through the streets of Antigua to reach 2 restaurants where you'll taste 5 amazing Guatemalan dishes: 2 stews, 2 side dishes, and 1 dessert. An example of what you will taste is Pepian and Jocon. During your time at the restaurants, you'll learn about the cooking and the story behind each dish. Your last stop is a candy store where you'll learn about the local confectionery and its connection with the Capuchinas Convent. You'll also have the opportunity to taste 3 types of traditional sweets.

Guests will then have some free time to browse the shops, take photos, enjoy lunch (prearranged), or just sit back and enjoy the colors of the city. Afterward, you will meet at the appointed spot and you will be returned to your Puerto Quetzal Cruise Terminal.

Note: There is a minimum of 2 participants needed per order.

Do I need to take my passport with me on the Puerto Quetzal Colonial Antigua City Colors and Flavors Excursion to show with my Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket?

We ended up being the only ones on the tour because another couple did not show up. This delayed our departure for the tour while the tour guide tried to find someone else to go along. In spite of the late departure, the experiences were perfect since we were a small group. The cloth weaving, followed by authentic tortillas and beans, and then a demonstration of local coffee making- were all so wonderful. Also very informative. The location was small so it could not have handled a cruise ship excursion of 40 people. That made it nice for us. Irwin was our guide. He was very excited to show us everything and wanting us to be happy with our experience. We went into the old city and visited churches and historic buildings which I really enjoy. Irwin spent time on the phone making plans for other tours which didn't seem professional since he was supposed to be giving us a tour. But the trip was worth it without a doubt.

Our day was filled with colors and interesting facts on Guatemala culture, such a beautiful city and the people are so nice and likable. Leaving the port area and traveling through the countryside to Antigua was so pretty. All along the way the guide was giving us background information and educational facts. We were able to see the volcanoes from a far distance but they were beautiful. Once in the city, it was full of color and vibrancy. Great coffee too!! I recommend you select the option on including lunch, the chicken is DELICIOUS!!!
