Enjoy the best that Mazatlan offers on this unique, combo excursion. Take in sightseeing highlights of both the old and new sections, enjoy a bit of shopping, or relax on the beach in the famous Golden Zone. Be sure to bring your camera. There will be many photo opportunities on this excursion!
Your fun day will begin when you meet with your English-speaking guide at your Mazatlan cruise ship pier. After a quick check-in, you will be shown to the air-conditioned van. Although this is not a private excursion, your group will be kept to a maximum of just 14 passengers. You will head off for your first stop at the Spanish Fort, known as Fuerte Carranza. The fort was used in the 1860s to defend itself from French invaders. The view from the fort is the only place where you can see the three islands located off the coast at the same time, Deer, Goat, and Bird Islands. From the lookout hill, you will catch amazing views of the city and the Cerro del Crestón where the lighthouse "El Faro" has been lit since 1879, being the tallest one in America and the tallest one still functioning in all the World.
Next, you'll head down to the Parque Glorieta, a small oceanside park usually referred to as "El Clavadista", here you will watch the cliff divers plunging off cliffs 45 feet up into water that is just 8 feet deep. Be amazed as they create interesting dives while avoiding the many sharp rocks below. The divers usually perform daily at 10:00 AM and 04:00 PM.
Then you're off to visit the historic district of Mazatlan. This includes the great Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, a Gothic-style cathedral with luxurious deco details, from handmade tiles, crystal chandeliers, and gold leaf murals, to a Cavaille-Coll organ and much more. It is a true architectural jewel in the heart of Mazatlan City. You will stop to go inside and take photos while your knowledgeable guide explains a little about its construction.
You can also take some time to wander through the downtown market and the main plaza where you will see colorful cafes, food stands, and unique handmade crafts from the local artisans.
Finally, you'll be driven along the longest boardwalk (the Malecon) in Mexico which has many bronze statues along the water to your next stop at the Golden Zone, known for both shopping and beautiful beaches. You will have free time to purchase a delicious Mexican lunch, relax on the beach, or search for shopping bargains.
Then, once your time in the Golden Zone comes to an end you'll be driven back to your Mazatlan cruise ship pier.
