Enjoy great sightseeing of Kauai's north and east shores that also includes a cruise on the Wailua River to the Fern Grotto. See why the island of Kauai is known as the "garden island".

After meeting your excursion guide near the shuttle drop off from your Kauai Cruise Terminal in Nawiliwili, you will join your exclusive group with a max of just 12 guests. Once on board your air-conditioned van transportation, depart Nawiliwili towards Kauai's east coast. Here, you will see numerous curving beaches, lush mountainsides dotted with waterfalls and sacred sites known as Heiaus. Photo stops will be taken at several locations and around each turn in the road are amazing photo opportunities including Opaeka'a and NaMolokama waterfalls. Do not forget your camera!

Your next stop is the Wailua River Marina where you will set off on an open-air barge type riverboat for a two-mile cruise to the world famous Fern Grotto on Kauai's only navigable river. From the landing dock, you will get out of the boat for a short nature walk through the rainforest to the lush Fern Grotto, where ferns growing upside down cover the ceiling. Within this natural amphitheater, Hawaiian musicians and hula dancers will entertain you. Returning to the marina downstream, you leave the boat and will have free time to purchase a snack or lunch at the Wailua Marina Restaurant, which has been a local favorite eatery for more than 40 years.

After the break, you will hop back into your transportation and drive further north to the Kilauea Lighthouse. During the winter months, look for Hawaii's seasonal visitors, the Humpback whales, just offshore. Nearby is the Kilauea Wildlife Refuge and Bird Sanctuary. On any given day, you are likely to see Layson Albatross, Boobies and tropical birds flying around as well as Nene Geese, which frequent the area.

As you begin your drive back to the south along the coconut coast, you will have photo stops at the Nounou Mountain range (also known as the Sleeping Giant), Hanalei Bay (a scenic location used in the movie South Pacific), the Taro Fields and scenic Anini Beach (a favorite place for windsurfing and diving). Your drive will take you past sugar cane fields and remnants of the old plantation before returning you to your starting point. If time allows, you can shop or take the shuttle back to the Nawiliwili Kauai pier, 5-minutes away.

Photo stops are approximately 15 minutes but may vary based on the group's interests. The river cruise is approximately 40 minutes each way with 40 minutes at the grotto. Please note the restrictions listed for this excursion.
