First Thank you Jerry for waiting on us! This is an awesome excursion! We enjoyed every part of this. Some of the food is spicy and not really something kids would like. We tasted delicious authentic Mexican food. I would definitely do this again and recommend

First let me say be sure you know the local time zone vs your ship time zone. If I hadn't read the details I would have been an hour late and missed the tour. With that said let me review the actual tour. The price tour was a bit more than I expected compared to tours available on my cruise ship for same price. However the ship did not offer a true \"food\" tour. Most involved mostly alcoholic drinks along with minimal food. Our meeting place for the cruise was a bit inconvenient because we had to catch an $8 cab ride to and from meeting point. Other ports were close enough to walk but ours wasn't. The guide was very friendly and informative. We met with a group total of 10 not counting the guide and van driver. Each food we tried was at a different local location that made it nice to see many places. First stop was two types of quesadilla on a small tortilla. One was cactus (without the needles of course) and other was a fermented corn that looks and taste like mushrooms. A pepper sauce was available. Also offered one of 3 drinks in a water bottle. I had a mix of cucumber and citrus (lemon and lime I think). My husband had a white milky like drink but I don't recall what was in it. Also available was a pinkish drink I believe from the hibiscus flower. We didn't care for either of the first 2 we tried but others did. Next stop was shredded pork with red onions on top a flour tortilla. A hot sauce in a bowl was also available. Here we were offered local beers or popular soda drinks in a bottle. I had coke. Food was fine but not very tasteful unless you added the sauce. Next stop was Lima soup pronounced like \"Lima\" Peru. It was basically shredded chicken in a broth with herbs and slices of the fruit. It has a citrus flavor. Fruit looks like a lime but is described as a sour tasting orange. Offered some tortilla chips and refried beans at this stop. Also offered a local bottled drink, water, etc. My husband had an apple type soda drink in bottle. We stopped at a local market where every type of fresh fruit, vegetable, meats and seafoods sold. Also could buy local goods. The guide suggested a good brand of Vanilla and many of us bought our there for a little less than cost at the cruise port shopping. Our biggest meal was a whole red snapper fried with head still on along with a cole slaw type dish and a cold, cheesy, tomato side dish. Fish was a bit dry. 2 large platters with 2 fish served our table of 10. By this time we were all getting full. Beverages were served. I had the fresh lemonade. We were assured that all food was prepared with bottled water. Last stop was the bakery. we could choose anything we wanted. My husband had an apple pie that was the size of a saucer. It had a lot of crust so he didn't care for it too much. I had cheese pie that tasted like cheesecake in a pie crust. It was VERY good. After the last stop we returned to our meeting point the Mega (grocery)store. Its a large store on the 2nd floor of a building similar to a small shopping mall. Interesting because of the flat escalator that brings you up a floor and down with shopping baskets. Because we arrived early we went into the store. They sold many interesting things you wouldn't readily find in America's food stores. It was similar to a super walmart as they sold many goods besides food. They had scooter vehicles for approx 1200 dollars. MANY varieties of peppers, fish and strange vegetables. Sanitation standards are different. Breads were in open bins. A lunch table had cooked food open on a table for customers to help themselves. Since we were the only couple who needed a taxi back to port the tour driver offered to take us back for the $8 fee. We were happy that he could so we didn't have to leave the vehicle and get another one. To sum up our food tour I mostly didn't care for the food. By our standards it was pretty bland unless you used a pepper sauce. By no means is this meant to be bad. People have different preferences of food and we come from Louisiana was food is very tasty. I did enjoy the whole over all experience of trying different authentic foods in authentic locations and learning about the history of the food and area.

My daughter and I went in this tour while on a cruise in January 2020. We were in a group of about 11. Loved that we went off the tourist path, and got to see some authentic food and places. Geraldo was our tour guide, and he was very knowledgeable, and gave us great background info. Recommend!

I took this tour with my brother and we had a wonderful time visiting the local market and had different food samples. We are foodies and always like to try the main and local dishes where we visit. Mexican culture is huge and had a lot of variety of food and tastings. The people are very friendly and our guide was awesome, simply the best guy! Definitely, something different you should try on.

Enjoyed being off the beaten path of the commercialized tourist areas. Our guide, Jerry was nice and very informative. We had our own personal van driver, Martin, who was wonderful. We tried so many different local, authentic food and drinks. My favorite drink was rice water. We tried mushroom, cactus, pulled pork, shrimp, and octopus tacos. We had Lima soup, delicious. Everyone was friendly and welcomed us into their establishments. I just wish I could remember the names of the restaurants.

This is an excellent and unique excursion. This tour allows you to experience the local food and culture with a private local tour guide. We were comfortably and safely escorted around the non-tourist areas in an air conditioned taxi while our guide Jerry explained to us the local food we were about to sample at each stop. All of the stops were places the locals eat and Jerry takes care of everything while you are there. The stops are charming and rustic. The food and drinks at each stop were wonderful!! Jerry not only explains the ingredients and preparation, but also tells you the best way to eat things and the spice level as well. I don't like super spicy food and I was fine with everything that was served. You will leave this tour completely stuffed!! The fried fish was the best I've every eaten! One of the highlights of our trip for sure.

This excursion was amazing. Went to about 5 different restaurants/storefronts that double as people's homes. The guide Gerardo, was awesome and really laid back. All the food we samples was as interesting as it was delicious. Going to the market was also a great experience. Capped the whole thing off with a tequila tasting at a hacienda. Any one I ever take back to Cozumel absolutely has to experience this tour!!!

Very much enjoyed the personal tour by Yurri, who took us to authentic restaurants (the kind that operate out of a converted garage, etc) where the locals go for food and drinks. Loved all the culture and knowledge shared with us. We (2) were the only people on this tour and got the VIP treatment. Had plenty to eat, and drink! I could not eat it all and did not want to waste such delicious and home cooked food. If you are looking for something away from the tourist traps, souvenier shops, etc., then this type of shore excursion is right for you. Only problem was waiting for a taxi that wanted to take us around. Our guide explained about the "union" that controls all the Taxi's on the island and how it operates, which delayed our journey, but it worked out well.

Get off the beaten path with other tourists stepping all over you. If all you sample of food in Mexico is Margaritaville and Senor Frogs then you are missing out! We were in Cozumel for that day on a cruise and so glad we took this tour. This great tour takes you to cafes and eateries where the locals go, to try food the locals eat. Jerry was a great guide and very informative. The whole fried fish and ceviche were great. Ask about the corn fungus tacos...much better than it sounds. Soup, bakery, local market. Much more. Well worth it.

What a great excursion for the wife and myself. We only had one other couple with us, which gave us a lot of one on one time with Jerry (our guide). It was great to get off the beaten path and into the heart of the old city, where we could experience the true flavors of this city. Jerry had a devoted taxi van for the entire excursion, which made it very easy and convenient to get around. We enjoyed something different at every stop, and the dishes were absolutely fantastic. We were so stuffed by the end of the tour that we had to get our deserts "to go" at our last stop. Jerry was absolutely great and we would do this tour again in a heartbeat. Thanks again Jerry!

This was clearly the best excursion we went on while on our 7 day vacation. Jerry, our guide, took us to several locations, where we tried authentic empanadas, tacos, Red Snapper, and baked goods. The guests that went along with us were also all very nice and we just had a great time. I would highly recommend this excursion to couples, or families. Thanks Jerry!

We chose this excursion because we wanted to experience the city, the people and the foods of this region. We were not disappointed. The pictures of the foods and locations were exactly what you eat and where you go. You truly experience this city through their foods. At first, 2 of us booked this excursion, but 4 others decided to tag along with us. By the end of our entire trip, the 4 others were still thanking us for bringing them along. We all agreed that this was our favorite of all the excursions. Emily, our guide, took us to 5 different eating locations and to the open air market. Each location had a different food and beverage to try. In the market, she showed us the items we had consumed. I highly recommend this excursion to everyone!!!
