You'll meet your guide outside your Belfast cruise ship port. Your friendly guide will give you interesting commentary on the sites you'll visit on this one-hour scenic sightseeing drive of the city. You'll pass Belfast City Hall, located in the city center and covering 1.5 acres. Built in the Baroque Revival style this century-old building has an enclosed courtyard, 4 corner towers with copper-coated domes, and a lantern-crowned dome in the center.
On Falls Road, you'll see City Murals painted on the walls lining the road. Painted are noteworthy men like Bobby Sands, leader of the 1981 hunger strike, and Frederick Douglass, an American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, and statesman. You'll also pass Shankill Road where you'll see a picture history of the conflict between Nationalist and Unionist citizens over the partition of Northern Ireland in 1921. See the International Peace Wall, one of many walls, that divide the Catholic and Protestant communities. Although the violence has ended, you can see the conflict of harmony and revenge in the murals painted on the walls that stand up to 6 meters high.
GOT Fans! You'll then head inland to visit The Dark Hedges. You'll have 20 minutes to wander the avenue of beech trees and take some photos. The trees form a tunnel and the location has been used in the HBO series Game of Thrones. Then it is on to Dunluce Castle for another photo stop. The now ruined medieval castle was built around 1500 on a cliff and is accessible only by a bridge connecting it to the mainland. It has a dramatic history and even a tale of a banshee and the kitchens falling into the ocean on a stormy night in 1639.
Your last stop is the incredible Giants Causeway. Here you'll see about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, formed by a volcanic eruption. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a must-see. The flat tops of the columns form stepping stones that disappear into the sea. They have 4 to 8 sides and the tallest is about 39' high. You'll have 2 hours to explore this amazing site and don't forget your camera you might want to take photos of this unique natural phenomenon.
