Having done this type excursion in Cozumel, we were very excited to meet the children and learn about the orphanage in Roatan. When we arrived, it felt as though we were a surprise. There was no organization to the presentation. One of the 15-year-old girls showed us a video about the orphanage. We were very briefly greeted by one of the House parents who gave us a little more information about the orphanage and school. He stated that most of the children were just getting up because they were still on vacation. The young girl gave us a quick tour, and we met a few children along the way. I wish we had been able to meet more of the children and hear more from the adults about the program overall. Our overall interaction was probably less than 30 minutes. After we left the orphanage, our Driver, Jimmy, and tour guide, Brian, took us on a tour of Roatan and to a chocolate factory and rum factory. Brian was very informative and made our trip worth the time. The best part of the excursion was spent with Brian and Jimmy and learning about the island.

My husband and I enjoyed our time at Sandy Bay Lighthouse and found Gaby to be a wonderful guide, showing us around the facility and explaining the ministry. She answered all of our questions. Our driver was also very familiar with the ministry and was willing to stop at a local market when we asked to purchase pantry items to donate. Would definitely recommend! It’s a great way to give back to the community.

My husband and I looked forward to this opportunity to use our cruise time not only for our own personal enjoyment, but also to bless others. In the months prior to the cruise I was able to connect with Sandy Bay Lighthouse via Facebook & email, learn about the work they are doing, help support the work financially and through prayers, and become familiar with their program. Ernesto, our driver for the excursion, was wonderful. He first took us on a tour of the island, then was willing to stop at a local supermarket where we wanted to pick up some food supplies to bring with us to the orphanage. Ernesto was a great help with suggestions for the types of items that would be the greatest blessing to the ministry, and helping us with the exchange rate. When we arrived at Sandy Bay Lighthouse we were introduced to the staff and several of the children. Gabby, one of the older youth, shared information about the ministry, showed a video explaining some of the history and current projects, took us on a tour and answered all of our questions. She was a wonderful guide - both knowledgeable and friendly! (Prayers for her future as she begins nursing school on the mainland this month!) We also met the team leader of a mission team from Canada who were there to serve at the orphanage and in the community, and he shared additional insights. After our time at Sandy Bay Lighthouse, Ernesto continued with a tour to various sights on the island and also took us to the chocolate factory for some tasty treats. If your heart's desire is to spend some time being an encouragement & blessing to others, I would highly recommend this excursion!

My friend and I went on this excursion for one of the port days of our seven-day cruise and were very glad we did. Ernesto showed amazing hospitality from the moment we met up with him. He is very passionate about the island and showed us many places and informed us about many things. He was amazing! We had a good time at the orphanage as well. We were able to interact with the children and learn about the ins and outs of the orphanage. We were very pleased with this excursion and plan to do it again if we ever go back to Roatan!!!

When we booked this excursion we were really doing so on faith. Little did we know that our faith was EXACTLY what was enhanced as our tour guide was a community pastor who allowed us to stop by a grocery store and purchase food staples to present to the orphanage "parents" Orsy and Banesa Cruz upon arrival. I don't think they were expecting us to arrive with needed supplies. I think that most people sign up to go on this excursion with a desire to visit with the children and learn more about what life is like for them ... maybe with connections in the future to help or make a financial donation (although not solicited). The conversation with Orsy and Banesa was great. We were able to pray together and ask about ways we could stay connected and offer assistance in the future. They are building a school (expected to open in February) and are in need of a lot of supplies. If you are on a cruise (Carnival cruise was the one we were on) and are looking for something of value to do in Roatan Honduras port, DON'T HESITATE to book this excursion. Johan Munoz was the guide and he customized all of our available time to suite our desires! BOOK THIS EXCURSION if your heart is into doing something for the community's orphan population. The orphanage has a website that they maintain their most up to date needs. We just chose to purchase food for their pantry because bringing goods was a bit too costly and difficult to carry. Plus ... it stimulates their economy so ... win/win. God is good... and this is a great excursion if you want to be a blessing as well as be blessed.

My son & I had a wonderful experience on this excursion. He was a great learning experience for him. Johan made sure we had a great experience. He also took us zip lining (add'l cost), chocolate factory, and some local shopping. He was funny, down to earth, and 110% accommodating! I would recommend him to anyone...you definitely won't be disappointed!
