Once your ship has docked on the Big Island of Hawaii, you will meet your guide directly at their offices near the cruise ship pier in Hilo. Your guide will help you board the transportation that will take you to the Dive Shop which is only a quick 5-minute ride away. Upon arrival at the dive shop, you will be fitted with a mask, snorkel, and fins. Your belongings will be stored at the dive shop. Do not worry if you have never snorkeled before, in that case, you will receive a thorough snorkel briefing. Then head off to the seaside with your expert snorkel guide.
The location of your snorkel excursion will depend on the weather conditions, which your professional guide will expertly access. You will snorkel from either Leleiwi or Richardson's Beach, both of which are located close to the dive shop. Leleiwi Beach has coves, several inlets, natural ponds, and lava rock tide pools. The coral reef close to shore makes Leleiwi Beach popular with snorkelers and scuba divers alike. Richardson's Beach has a marine conservation area, lava rock tide pools, and natural ponds like Leleiwi. Richardson's Beach is one of the unique beaches with black and green sand, which is composed of lava and olivine crystals. The coral reef here is situated close to shore making it a great place to snorkel.
Your guide will help you into the water and make sure all your snorkel equipment is comfortable and functioning correctly before leading you on your 45-minute snorkel adventure. You will have the chance to see many different kinds of tropical fish, hard coral as well as other marine animals. Hawaiian reefs possess some of the most abundant levels of marine endemic species in the world sheltering over 700 species of fish, 400 species of algae, and over 2000 species of invertebrates.
