Sightseeing, a boat trip, fresh fruit samples, and then a walk on a beautiful beach! Sounds good? Then come enjoy this Costa Rica Puerto Limon Excursion that has a bit of everything and shows you the best of Puerto Limon.
You'll start this great half-day shore excursion by meeting your local excursion guide just outside your Puerto Limon cruise ship terminal. You'll hop on board a comfortable, and air-conditioned transportation for a brief city tour to learn about the small town of Limon and its cultural offerings from the comfort of your vehicle.
After you get acquainted with the town, you will visit a fruit stand, where a local farmer exhibits the best of the country's produce. Enjoy a free sample of seasonal fruit that is fresh and delicious. You will have 15 minutes to taste and browse.
Then, your transportation will take you to an organic banana plantation after a 15-minute ride. There, you'll learn about cultivating, harvesting, and shipping this beloved fruit that contributes greatly to Limon's economy. Be prepared for a 200-meter leisurely walk where you'll not only explore bananas but also discover other exotic tropical plants alongside your guide for 20 to 30 minutes. If you'd like some shopping, you can also check out the souvenir shop during your visit.
Next comes a scenic 20-minute ride to the Tortuguero Canal. The covered boat seats up to 25 passengers comfortably. Your sightseeing excursion guide will be with you the entire time giving you lots of good and interesting bits of information about the flora and fauna.
You'll take a leisurely ride down the canal surrounded by tropical beauty. Your friendly guide will share information about the Costa Rican environment and the Tortuguero Canals. You'll have a full hour to keep an eye out for the sloths, monkeys, iguanas, and more. Be sure to bring your camera, you'll not want to miss capturing these moments. The rainforest is lovely and so very tranquil, it is hard not to relax.
Once your boat ride comes to an end, you'll get back on board your transportation for a 10-minute ride to Playa Bonita, or "beautiful beach". You will soon see why this beach is a favorite of the locals or Ticos. If the weather is good for taking a dip, go ahead. If not, and your guide will be able to tell, you can explore the shoreline, purchase a bite to eat at the restaurants that dot the beachside. No rush, you'll have half an hour (or more if time allows) to enjoy the gorgeous scenery, take a stroll, or just relax in a chair.
When it's time to leave, the transportation will head to a lookout point where you can spend 10 minutes taking in the fabulous view or take some pictures for later. Then enjoy the sights of Puerto Limon on your way to the next stop just 10 minutes away.
Heading back into town, you will optionally have the time to make a quick stop (about 15 minutes) at a local supermarket where you can purchase some of the coffee that has made this country famous.
At this point, it's time to head back to your Puerto Limon cruise ship pier. Your guide and driver will drop you off at the entrance of the cruise terminal and make sure to have you back in plenty of time, so no worries, just relax and enjoy your day!"
