This excursion provides a unique opportunity to reach the peak of one of the most famous volcanoes in the history of mankind. When you order, you can choose what size group you want to join - for the most personal and more one-on-one experience, pick the VIP group option with a maximum of 8 adults per group. There is also the option to join up with a small group of 16 adults maximum or the regular option with 40 adults max.
Following a pick-up outside your Naples cruise terminal, your comfortable transfer will transport you on a scenic 40-minute ride to Pompeii where you begin your guided walk up the trails of Mt. Vesuvius. Your driver will head up to the slopes of the mountain where you will stop at a local restaurant with amazing views of the bay of Naples where you will have some delicious local lunch and enjoy 3 different wines of the vineyards of the region. The menu usually consists of a dish of cheeses, salami, grilled seasonal vegetables, and spaghetti with Vesuvius tomatoes and basil. You will also receive a dessert or seasonal fruit.
The next stop of your adventure is the magnificent Mount Vesuvius. From the bus parking area at 1000 meters, you will begin your trek up a serpentine path to the crater at the top of the mountain. During your visit to the Mt. Vesuvius National Park, an expert, English-speaking guide will take you on a tour of the volcano, highlighting its rich natural and historical features. Note that the entrance fee is due on-site and is not included in the excursion cost.
When Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, including inhabitants, were buried under 13-20 feet of volcanic ash and pumice! You have heard the story of the Vesuvius eruption and now is your chance to see an ancient part of history.
After your excursion, you will return to your bus and begin your descent towards Naples, enjoying the spectacular views of the city and coast. Once back at your Naples cruise terminal, you may continue to explore at leisure and your own expense.
