Come and snorkel in pristine waters and explore the exotic island of Cas Cay which boasts mangroves, volcanic cliffs, and a blowhole. You'll get to enjoy a picnic on a deserted beach and visit the southernmost tip of St. Thomas. This adventure is available in two versions. You can choose the 5-hour journey that includes a box lunch and more time to admire and explore the island of Cas Cay or the short version, a fun 3-hour excursion that allows you to explore the mangrove and its nature.
This great day begins with a brief and scenic, 20-minute taxi drive from the cruise ship pier to the Mangrove Lagoon Marina. That's where your experienced guide will meet with you. They will show you how to use the paddle and then you will be shown the kayaks. There is the option to single, double, or even triple depending on your combined weight. Riding single depends on the size of the group; there is the possibility you will ride with another guest on the same kayak.
Keep an eye out for pelican nests and other tropical birds, or look into the water and spot one of the graceful eagle rays that call this mangrove home. Your St. Thomas Shore Excursion guide will fill you in on the complexities of the mangrove ecosystem and point out areas of interest for the 20 minutes it takes to get to Cas Cay Island.
Once on the island, you will see riveting topography including volcanic cliffs, enormous boulders, rubble beaches, and more. Your guide will show you to the famous Red Point Blowhole where you can take some great pics. Soon you can enjoy a picnic lunch with your guide on a rubble beach with fantastic views. Your box lunch will be a sandwich, fruit, chips, candy (for energy), and bottled water (the box lunch is only available in the 5-hour Excursion option if you choose the 3-hour Excursion option, you would arrive at the blowhole to take some pictures and continue to hike to the mangrove nursery to snorkel).
Then it is time to do some snorkeling! Your guide will happily assist those who are new to the sport. They will pass out all of the snorkeling gear (mask, fins, snorkel, and vest) and help you into the water from the coral-fringed mangrove nursery. You will have a unique opportunity to snorkel in the mangrove nursery where you will see wildlife different from typical snorkeling adventures. As you snorkel through seagrass, keep an eye out for turtles, eagle rays, and much more!
Once your snorkeling is finished you will head back to your kayaks and begin the lazy paddle back to the Mangrove Lagoon Marina. You'll also be served a snack and water for your refreshment and energy. Once at the dock, you can simply take a taxi back to your St. Thomas cruise ship pier.
