This is a great Mazatlan Shore Excursion to be introduced to the unique Pajaros Island, also known as Birds Island, off the coast of Mazatlan. With this Mazatlan Kayaking and Snorkeling Excursion, you may well discover wildlife and birds such as ducks, along with herons, pelicans, armadillos, raccoons, whales, dolphins, turtles, and tropical fish.
This adventure and eco-cruise shore excursion begins when meeting with your English-speaking local Mazatlan kayak and snorkel excursion guides just outside of your Mazatlan cruise ship pier. You will be escorted to your transportation and relax while you enjoy a 30-minute scenic air-conditioned drive to the beach location.
Once at the beach location, your guide will show you how to paddle your kayak, along with giving you tips and pointers (price varies between single or double kayaking options, check the shopping cart info below for more information). When you feel ready, your kayaking and snorkeling excursion guides will lead you to the Pajaros Island (Birds Islands) located just off the coastline with paddling time taking approximately 20 minutes; so this Mazatlan excursion can be for virtually everyone. Pajaros is the best-preserved island in the Bay of Mazatlan on the Mexican Riviera.
Once you arrive at the 1.5-acre Birds Island, you will walk around and explore the coastline with your guide. Make sure to keep an eye out for wildlife. Your naturalist shore excursion guides will entertain you with information about the geological history of this location while you watch for brown booby birds, pelicans, reptiles, and endemic plants.
Venados, Lobos, along with Pajaros Island, are Mazatlan's 3 most important natural icons. This small group of small islands are part of the Natural Protected Area, Islands of the Gulf of California, and represents a major ecological reserve for the region's marine and terrestrial biodiversity.
After the hike, your guide will lead you back to your kayak for a paddle around Pajaros Island; your guides will choose the best location for two snorkel sessions of approximately 25 minutes each. You will pull your kayaks up on the beach, get on your snorkeling gear, and wade into the water from the shore. While enjoying guided snorkeling look for a myriad of tropical colorful fish, mollusks, crustaceans, and other invertebrates that inhabit the rocky reefs along the coastline.
After your snorkeling and once back on the Pajaros Island beach, you can enjoy a traditional Mexican snack lunch of tortas, seasonal fruit, and bottled water. Your guide will then lead you for a paddle back to the Mazatlan coast.
Then, when your Mazatlan Kayak and Snorkel cruise excursion comes to an end, you will be returned to your cruise ship pier in Mazatlan, Mexico.
Please note, that according to the group experience and interest, you may choose to kayak around the Venado and Lobos islands as well. The departure time of 8:30 AM is designed for cruise ships arriving at Mazatlan port at 8 AM or earlier.
