Your round-trip transportation will pick you up at your resort/hotel at a departure time assigned after you book. Sit back and relax in comfort for the approximate 4-hour drive. Key West is at the southernmost tip of Florida on the very last little island of the Straits of Florida. On the way, you'll hop over the islands crossing 42 bridges including the Seven Mile Bridge which has been the spot for several movie scene filming - 2 Fast 2 Furious, License to Kill, and others. You will travel over the Everglades and see fantastic sights as you pass.
Although the island of Key West is small, only 4 miles long and 1 mile wide there is so much to see and do.
You will have about 6 hours in Key West. Your driver will tell you when and exactly where you will have to meet for the return trip back up to Miami. Part of this day trip combo package is a fun sightseeing ride through the town on the Conch Train, the original way to see Key West.
As part of this package, sit back and relax on the Conch Train as it takes you through the city. You will see all the famous sites such as Old Town and learn about the history of the area. Then, of course, there's Hemingway Home, the house of one of Key West's original celebrities, author Ernest Hemingway, and the 6-toed cats.
The train will cruise down Duval Street, the main street. You'll learn why Harry Truman used to spend so much time there and learn about the history and development of the area. You'll also see Old Town Key West from Front Street Depot to Mallory Square. You'll learn about the city, and the Conch Republic's history, and be entertained with insider information by your conductor. The ride on the Conch Train is approximately 90 minutes long. Guests stay on board for the loop and do not get off the train until the end. Once the train completes its loop you will have approximately 4.5 hours of free time to explore.
Don't forget to try a piece of the true key lime pie where it originated, it's legendary. You can also spend time in one of the famous Key West bars and get to know a few of the locals. Enjoy some great fresh seafood or visit one of the many legendary bars such as Sloppy Joe's, one of Hemingway's favorites. There is a large selection of shopping opportunities. Or maybe visit Fort Zachary Taylor which holds a large collection of Civil War items including cannons.
You can always just relax on the beach and do nothing at all. Hear street musicians, sip coffee, and do a little people-watching. Located by the historic waterfront, Mallory Square is a must when visiting Key West. Don't forget to try a piece of the true key lime pie where it originated, it's legendary.
