No trip to Hawaii would be complete without attending a Luau! Experience the most popular Luau on Kauai, complete with traditions, Polynesian dance and music and of course, the Feast!
For more than 50 years, the Smith Family has offered the spirit of Aloha at their famous luau, located near the Wailua River. Today, under the eyes of the fourth generation of Smiths, it is the most popular luau on Kauai. After departing the cruise pier in Nawiliwili, it is a short 20-minute drive to your Luau tropical paradise location.
Upon arrival, you will be met with a traditional Hawaiian greeting and have time to explore the 30 acres, (12 hectares) tropical park either on foot or by tram. This is followed by the Imu ceremony, where the evening's main course is removed from the underground oven where it has been slowly cooking all day.
Enjoy a welcome drink from the open bar as your taste buds water with anticipation. Local traditional music adds just the right touch to let you know you are truly somewhere special.
And then it is time for The Feast! After sensing the alluring smells, it is finally time to taste the tropical flavors of Hawaii. The buffet includes slow-cooked kalua pork, beef teriyaki, chicken adobo, and sweet and sour mahi-mahi as the main courses. It would not be a feast if there were not seemingly endless other dishes and there are including Hawaiian sweet potato, Poi, Lomi salmon, namasu salad and others. Make sure to save room for the tropical desserts. There is also an open bar included with your dinner feast that includes Mai Tai cocktails, beer, white or red wine, standard well drinks, (rum and coke, gin and tonic, vodka), as well as juices and sodas.
After dinner, stroll torch-lit paths to reach the open-air theater where you will let go and let the rhythm of Aloha take you on a musical voyage of the South Seas. Enjoy a colorful performance including music and dance from Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, and other South Pacific locals. There is certain to be drums of many sizes, Polynesian-style ukulele and mouth flutes, flaming torches, knives and perhaps even a volcano during the performance.
All too soon, it is time to rejoin your transportation for the quick ride back to your Nawiliwili Kauai cruise pier.
Please note that from November thru January, the luau will be held at the Courtyard Marriott.
