Explore the archeological site of Mayapan. These Mayan ruins are considered the last Mayan capital of the postclassic era, you can find a pyramid similar to the Kukulcan Castle and more than 4,000 structures in this place. Then refresh yourself in the cool fresh water of a cenote.

Our guides were so good to our group. They were waiting for us at the shuttle depot. Very knowledgeable of the ruins. Our main guide Eduardo was seriously the best! He did whatever we wanted. I would definitely do this excursion again.

Juan was amazing, so informative and kept our attention as we learned about the history of Mayapan and the Mayans. The sights were breathtaking.... and Nah Yah Cenote swim... oh my goodness, words can not express the beauty of this place. It's safe to say that we left a piece of our hearts in Yucatan!!

Instructions for free shuttle were spot on. Shuttle stops at market where reps are awaiting just outside in bright chartreuse shirts. From there you load on bus and go to main office. In our case, we were the only two on the tour. We met our driver/guide Steven and headed to Mayapan ruins. Once there, we met with Eric to guide and explain the site's history, the Mayan's culture and purpose of individual structures, drawings and sculptures. After an hour, we drove over to the cenote and swam for a while. This cenote is off the beaten path but does have functional bathrooms. Our trip was in December 2019. The weather was warm - so the cool water was welcome. We then drove back to Progresso to the office. Turns out the shuttle depot is two buildings away from the tour office. Steven led us to shuttle and saw us off. We were fortunate to get Steven as our guide/driver. He is very considerate and polite. He catered to our every need and made us feel comfortable throughout the trip. Eric is actually more than a guide. We have since found out that he works on the archaeology team and is featured in a documentary on Mayapan. So we basically had a private trip and tour. This is my second booking with Shore Excursioneer and both have been perfect and great value for the costs. our driver/guide

Mayapan Ruins- tour guides Jose and Michelle- informative, friendly, helpful. The tour guides provided just the right amount of information to be able to envision the lives of the Mayapan people. We learned a lot about their history and culture. They also taught us about the different areas, meanings, and uses for the different parts of the ruins. I am grateful we were able to climb to the top of the pyramid, Lazy River- pretty swim, very short distance, but enjoyed wholeheartedly. My 10 year old daughter was nervous and started crying at first. The guides were so helpful in calming her nerves, making her laugh, and she really enjoyed the swim. Cavern Swim- my favorite part of the excursion. I am sure many of you have visited a cavern somewhere before. Now, imagine that cavern, with lighting and all, filled with fresh, clear water, and you can swim through it. we brought our own snorkel gear, and I am glad that I did because we were able to keep our heads under water longer. They provide goggles, if needed. The buffet- delicious. We enjoyed our Mayapan food. My 10 year old is vegetarian and my 19 year old is vegan. They specifically made a meal for each individual- without us asking them to do so. Service was organized, friendly, and courteous. We had an amazing time with this excursion. I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it. You'll love and appreciate it as well.

It ended up being just my husband and I. Juan was very knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and language. Answered all of our questions and made sure we had a good time. We made it back with plenty of time for shopping before we needed to get on the ship.

Took this tour recently and was simply fantastic. Visited the Mayapan Ruins about 40 minutes ride from the port, the guide was very informative giving us information on the way to the ruins. The Mayan Ruins are magnificent Mayan buildings with sculptures printed on the stones, similar to the Egyptians. I was very impressed with one of the round temples that looks like a lunar observatory. Heard stories that the Mayans were very wise and their beliefs or predictions were based on observing the moon and the stars. After learning about the Mayan, we head to the cenote (sink hole) the view from the top was really great, it has a deep blue color, the tranquility of the water is amazing and water is really cold. We took a deep on the freshwater to soften the heat of the zone. Highly recommend this tour, you won't regret yourself of learning something really different.

We booked independently through ShoreExcursioneer (rather than booking a shore excursion through Carnival). We wanted to see a cavern (or semi-open) cenote, rather than an open one. We also hoped to see some of the Mayan ruins, and booking this excursion, which was arranged by the (local operator), was a great compromise that allowed both in one day (rather than visiting the largest most well known ruins, or a day seeing many cenotes). Although the (local operator) provided excellent directions, we were still surprised at the steps needed: get off ship, walk to and through the shopping center, exit the front and board a Progreso shuttle (free) that takes you about 4 miles into town. We got off the ship at 9:10 (one of the first passengers off) and needed to meet rep by 9:45 - just made it in time - this means you really need to be on that first shuttle, since shuttles come about every 20 minutes. When we got into town, some other representatives boarded the bus to tell us about other excursions that we could book if we didn't already have plans. Then we got off the bus, met our green-shirted representative, waited across the street for a van that brought us to another location, then connected there with our guide Ignacio and our driver. We could have had up to 16 people in our group, so we were surprised that it was just the two of us and our guide and driver. We got on the road around 10. First stop was Mayapan an hour away, where Ignacio explained the site in detail. It was very interesting, especially the carvings, observatory, and paintings. We were there about an hour, then a 30 minute drive to Nah Yah cenote. The cenote was cool and refreshing. There were a couple of divers and just us. It was great to experience the peace of the place and hear the birds. I would highly recommend arranging a trip like this independently, so that you might be in a small group rather than a megabus of people taking over a natural pool together. The (local operator) was very organized. Recommended!

Where do I start with this review? First, never judge a book by its cover. We were greeted in the parking lot by a staff member who was very friendly and took our final payment. We waited for a few other people and then they drove us to a location about 10 minutes from the meeting point. It is not a glamorous place, in fact, I was a bit nervous--but I was totally WRONG to feel that way. We transferred to an older minivan, but it was clean, and the air worked well. Our driver and tour guide were the sweetest duo on the planet. They tailored our excursion to what interested us. First, we drove about 45 minutes to the Mayapan Mayan Ruins. We were allowed about an hour to walk around. Our guide was there for us to answer questions or to snap any photos we wanted to be in. It was amazing. The history, the architecture, the surroundings--all was amazing. We then loaded back in the minivan and traveled another 20 minutes to the cenote. I want you to know that the trip to the cenote is not glamorous. You will travel through several small towns/villages that are extremely poor. It will put into perspective how blessed you truly are. What made my heart happy was that the people were happy. The people smiled and waived at you. They were happy to have you there. We passed a primary school which I found interesting. The children had so little; yet they were playing, laughing, and having a great time. Finally, we arrived at the Cenote. I cannot begin to tell you how beautiful this natural swimming cave is. You have to see it and swim it for yourself. Amazing, amazing, amazing! Our guide, Steven, constantly took photos for us with our phones. He was helpful in assisting us in and out of the Cenote. Hector, the driver, made sure our van was always cool and ready to go. We could not have asked for more attentive guide and driver. My piece of advice I would give to you is not to expect superficial glamour, but know that if you have a heart, you will leave with it completely full. This again, was nothing short of amazing--every single part.

We booked this excursion for a day trip from the cruise. We took free shuttle to the terminal where we were quickly located by our tour guide. Once us and the other couple were together we hopped in the van and took off. It was about an hour drive to the ruins, but sure worth it when you seen them!! Our guide who I forget his name : ( was very informative and was in fact a Mayan descendant. After the ruins it was a short 15 minute drive to the cenote going though a small village. It was Jan. 2nd and the weather was about 74 and a little cloudy. We went down the stairs into the cenote to swim and though the weather was not ideal for swimming it was nice! After our swim the two couples and our two guides went back to the village where we had lunch in a local's home. Some may not have enjoyed it, but for me that was real Mexico experience at its best!!! I really enjoyed our experience and would definitely recommend to the next person!!

WoW! These have been the most impressive Maya Ruins we have visited! I guess a lot of people don't know about this place, so it wasn't too crowded. I wish more poeple visited though! It's a really interested site and one of the few that let you climb the pyramids. Our guide Pepe also told us that only a small part is opened to the public, so you will definitely see us here again if they exhibit the rest!!!! We also visited the nahyah cenote and it was soooo beautiful and refreshing after a sunny day climbing up and down the pyramids!
