This is a nature lover's dream shore excursion in St. Kitts, Basseterre. Get out and see St. Kitts from the best vantage point imaginable atop Mount Liamuiga with unique views of the island's volcano!

Your English-speaking excursion guide will meet you outside your St. Kitts Cruise Port to start with this unique St. Kitts Hiking Cruise Excursion. After the greeting, you will board a comfortable vehicle for the 45-60 minute drive to the hiking site. Depending on the size of the shore excursion group, your transportation will either be an air-conditioned van or an open-air safari-style truck. Along the way, you will see many highlights and sights including Brimstone Hill Fortress in the distance.

Your destination is easy to spot as it is the highest point on St. Kitts Island at more than 3,700 ft. - Mount Liamuiga and its volcano. No fears, the extinct volcano last erupted over 1,800 years ago. The vigorous rainforest hiking journey to the top takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. Your hiking shore excursion guide knows the trails by heart and will assist you the entire way.

The lower slope is relatively moderate. When you reach 1,000 ft, the landscape changes into a lush rainforest where the tree canopies will shade most of the rest of your hike. It is a good idea to have a light jacket. Guests will hike past the Viney banyan trees and all should keep watch in the canopy for the vervet monkeys playing. Your hiking guide will be giving you information about the area including the plants and animals of the rainforest.

The last 790 ft is where the hiking gets slightly harder; there will be tree roots and rocks to climb over. The trail will be steeper. But once at the summit, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the mile-wide volcano crater as well as of Nevis and the neighboring Lesser Islands. A complimentary light snack of homemade pastries and tropical fruits will help you to recoup before you head back.

The hike down is a lot easier and with stops along the way to simply enjoy the peaceful silence and the gorgeous natural landscape. The hike down is approximately 2 hours.
