You will take the free shuttle from your Livorno pier to the transportation hub near the harbor's main gate. You will meet your English-speaking escort, along with your private driver and set out in your air-conditioned transportation for the 2-hour journey to the historic center of Florence. A restroom stop will be made after an hour on route.
On arrival to the city's historic area, you will meet your local English-speaking excursion guide and set off on a walking excursion of the Historical District which is predominately pedestrian. See the Gothic architecture of Piazza del Duomo with its Cupola, a powerful symbol for both the city and its tradition. See the exterior of the Baptistery and its impressive handmade doors.
You will then walk to the Piazza Della Signoria, known as Florence's political heart and see the Palazzo Della Signoria. This monument was designed in 1298 for the seat of the Republican government. Your guide will explain the role of the Medici family and its influence on Florence as well as the Renaissance.
A short walk brings you to the oldest bridge in Florence, Ponte Vecchio. Although reconstructed after the flooding of 1333, the bridge still offers great architectural views and interesting photo opportunities.
You will then have approximately 45 minutes of free time on your own to sample Florentine cuisine and Tuscan wine. Your guide will be able to offer suggestions. Lunch is at the guest's expense.
After the lunch break, visit the Square of Santa Croce, one of the city's largest squares used for popular typical celebrations. There you will see the outside of the Basilica of Santa Croce, one of Florence's largest churches as well as the resting place of some of Italy's influential famous such as Gioacchino Rossini, Galileo Galilei and the artist, Michelangelo.
After saying goodbye to your guide, your escort will walk you to your transportation and from here, you will journey to Pisa. On arrival to the city, you will disembark and walk approximately 20 minutes to the Field of Miracles and the famous Leaning Tower. You will have a guide here as well. Enjoy some free time for photo opportunities before returning to your cruise pier, approximately 30 minutes from Pisa.
Please note that you should anticipate large crowds at all sites. When possible, a guide from Livorno will be used replacing the need for the escort.
