On this 3-hour private excursion, you will discover where the royal dynasty of Montenegro was born, Njegusi. This town is also famous for its prosciutto ham and cheese. After your time in Njegusi, you will have a guided walk of Kotor's Old Town and discover why it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As you meet your private guide and driver outside your Kotor cruise port, you will take a 30-minute scenic drive on the mountain outside of Kotor. The road winds up more than 3,000 feet (914 meters) above the town. Enjoy the stunning viewpoint where you can admire Kotor Bay and depend on the visibility far beyond! The views are impressive and will leave you breathless. Following the road, you will pass charming agricultural farms until you get to the endearing collection of stone houses in the town of Njegusi. Not only famous as being the home village of the Petrovic dynasty but also because of the making of the best smoked dried prosciutto ham of Montenegro and cheese. You will have a guided walk of the village which it said only has 40 inhabitants. Small in size but huge in quaintness! You can taste the famous ham, cheese and honey wine in a local restaurant (at your own expense).
After your time in Njegusi, you will start your return to Kotor and observe how the landscape changes as you climb through the Montenegrin karsts formations. This is ice-eroded limestone that dates back to the last glacier period is a harsh visual difference than the green flat farmland at Njegusi.
Once in Kotor, your guide will take you through the narrow streets of the Old Town. It's well-preserved architecture and numerous monuments of cultural heritage have made Kotor a UNESCO World Heritage Site. History has the city dating back 2 millenniums and many conquerors ruled it, Illyrians, Venetians, Austrians, French. Their cultural influence can be seen around the city. One of the most important buildings, and also one of the most magnificent, is the Cathedral of St. Tryphon, built in 1166. No waiting in line as you will have a Skip the Line ticket included! On the inside, you will find unique decorative sculptures, known as ciborium and frescoes from the 14th century. You will also have access and entrance to the Maritime Museum. Another feature that characterizes the city are the surrounding high fortress walls. Built to protect the city they are at some points up to 65 feet (20 meters) high and 32 feet (10 meters) wide.
