The private sightseeing excursion starts at your Civitavecchia cruise ship where you will meet your English-speaking driver who serves as your narrator/guide and set out in your air-conditioned transportation for the 80-minute journey to Rome. All along the way and throughout the day, the driver will give you commentary on the sites. On arrival in Rome, take in the view of Palatine Hill, one of the city's famous 7 hills, and once the setting for the royal palace. Below you will see the outline of what was once the Circus Maximus stadium where the chariot races were held.

Situated at the far end of Capitoline Hill is the Roman Colosseum. Built approximately 70-72 A.D. by Emperor Vespasian, best known for its gladiator games it has been the home to celebrations, sporting events, and bloodshed. You will enjoy 40 minutes of free time to explore this site from the outside. If you want to get inside the Colosseum, the entrance fee is 20 Euros per person to be paid on-site. From the upper level, you can gaze over the Arch of Titus and the Roman Forum.

Departing Imperial Rome, you will pass by the Victor Emanuel Monument (due to its unique shape it is also known as the typewriter or the wedding cake) monument as you make your way to Old Rome. Here you will visit the largest Baroque fountain in the city, the Trevi Fountain. A coin tossed over your shoulder will guarantee your return to Rome, or so legend says.

Your driver will then take you to the Pantheon, a temple to all Ancient Roman gods. The current structure was built by Hadrian around 112 A.D. In its walls are the burial chambers of the painter Raphael, composer Corelli, and two of Italy's kings, Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I. Umberto's Queen Margherita, who legend says is the namesake of the most popular style of pizza in Italy, is also entombed here.

You will then have approximately 40 minutes of free time on your own to shop, sightsee, or grab a quick lunch. Your driver/guide can make recommendations (the price of lunch is not included).

After the break, rejoin your transportation and cross the river to visit Vatican City. En route, you will pass the Castle of the Angels (Castel Sant'Angelo) and Bernini's Bridge of the Angels.

When you arrive at St. Peter's Square, enjoy 45 minutes of free time on your own to explore the square, soak up the atmosphere, or do some souvenir shopping. Please note that due to the popularity of St. Peter's Basilica, waiting times to enter the church may be excessive and it will not be doable during your visit.

At the appointed time and spot, you will regroup with your private excursion transportation and head back to your ship pier in Civitavecchia, approximately 80 minutes away.

Please note the sequence of visits may change due to traffic. Anticipate large crowds at all sites with some entrance lines taking over one hour to clear. Transportation will be by smaller vehicle and your driver will give commentary along the way and at each stop.
