Your excursion begins adjacent to the Sagrada Familia, just a 20-minute taxi ride from your Barcelona cruise pier, where your excursion staff will greet you. You will walk with your guide to the basilica just yards away and begin an interior visit. You will not have to wait in the long line with your Skip the Line ticket that is included!
Perhaps no other artist or architect left his or her mark on Barcelona as distinctly as Antoni Gaudi. From park benches to apartment buildings, he created numerous treasures including seven that have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Gaudi's work reflected his passions in life, architecture, nature, and religion. On this excursion, you will visit his unfinished masterpiece, where all of his talents and passion come together in one incredible work.
Gaudi began construction on Sagrada Familia in 1882, knowing he would never see its completion. The church, a Roman Catholic basilica, has been funded only by donations since day one. It is projected to be done by 2026, on the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death.
The Basilica de la Sagrada Familia, known simply as Sacred Family, was designed in a Latin cross plan with five aisles. The vaults reach a height of 230 feet and every corner seems to be filled with extremely rich ornamentation and symbolism. This is unlike any other church you may have seen.
You will also visit the Sagrada Familia museum, where you will see drawings, scale-sized plaster models, and pictures about the history and development of this basilica from its early beginnings to the present day.
There is even more to this excursion. At the end of the guided portion, your guide will show you to the church tower elevators. You will take the elevator up to where you will be rewarded with incredible panoramic views out across the city. Due to the limited capacity of the elevators, there can be waiting time between the end guided portion and your elevator access.
The tower visit is without your guide. The elevator is subject to cancellation depending on weather conditions and other forces beyond control. You are welcome to stay longer after your guide departs. You may return to your cruise ship at your leisure and own expense.
