This great beach day excursion with Snorkeling and Grand Turk Rum Tasting begins with a brief, 15-minute, taxi ride from your Grand Turk cruise terminal to the resort (transportation is not included). Once you arrive, the friendly beach resort staff will greet you and schedule your snorkeling excursion time. Then just pick a spot, kick back, and dig your toes into the warm sand.
When your snorkeling time arrives, you will meet your boat captain and snorkel excursion guide and then head out to the famous Grand Turk Wall. Typically the snorkel group is 8 participants or fewer. Your snorkel excursion captain will hand out the snorkeling gear (mask, snorkel, and fins) and give instructions to anyone who is new to snorkeling. Then you will go into the water, where you will see an abundance of marine life just beneath the surface.
You can choose to remain at the reef, which is about 20 feet (6 m) deep, or head over to the wall several yards/meters away, which drops off to 7,000 feet (2 km) deep. Your captain will keep an eye on you the entire time, so you have nothing to do but be amazed by the coral, sponges, tropical fish, and more. Keep an eye out for Parrot Fish, Sargent Fish, Groupers, Puffers, and maybe a stingray, or even a dolphin. No rush, you have an hour to explore the water while snorkeling or swimming. Naturally, you are welcome to return to the snorkel boat at any time and a snorkel flotation vest is available for anyone who wishes to use one.
When your snorkeling adventure comes to an end, the boat will return to shore and the beach resort. But, this day isn't over yet. At the resort, you will enjoy tasting selections from famous Turks and Caicos Bambarra Rums. The Grand Turk rum company name is from a famous shipwreck. Back in 1841, a slave trader ship called the Trouvadore, was wrecked just offshore. Many of the African survivors made it to the island and their home in Africa was Bambarra. You will have the opportunity to sample several rum selections, flavored, light, dark, and amber. These are pure sugar cane rums and have a very distinct flavor. After sampling, you will then be served a drink made with your favorite rum from the tastings. If you find a favorite, you may purchase a bottle to take home with you. You are welcome to remain at the Grand Turk beach resort for as long as you wish as the resort is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Guests may enjoy the hammocks and the wide-open beach. There are also lounge chairs out on the beach. Additional water sports are available on-site that you may rent - prices are available directly with the operators. There is a restaurant and beach bar where you may purchase food and additional drinks and the staff will be happy to serve you. Taxis are always available and you can take the 15-minute return trip to your Grand Turk cruise ship terminal at your leisure and expense. The minimum to run the excursion is 4; you may be added to another group to make the minimum needed.
