Departing your Kahului cruise port in the wee hours, you will drive to Haleakala National Park, approximately 60 minutes away. Your Maui Haleakala sunrise shore excursion guide will keep talking to a minimum for those needing a few more minutes of shuteye. You will have a stop for a Continental Breakfast before heading up to the summit - fresh fruit, assorted pastries and beverages. After clearing park security, it is another 45 minutes to reach the Red Hill, Pu'u Ula Ula, at the summit of Haleakala.
At 10,023 feet (3055 meters) elevation, you are above the clouds with an angel's view of the horizon. Soon, there is a gradual move from dark of night to lighter shades of blue in the sky to the east. This leads up to an explosion of color as the sun makes its entrance above the clouds. In addition to the ever-changing colors in the sky, you are also treated to the multi-colored Haleakala volcano and crater terrain as well as, cloud cover permitting, views of the Big Island of Hawaii, Lanai, Molokai and beyond in the distance. It is breath-taking and full of photo ops so do not forget your camera.
From here, descend to the House of the Sun visitor's center, located on the rim of the Haleakala Crater, for a photo stop. As the sun rises further into the sky, the multi-colored lava landscape changes colors. During your drive back to the park gate, your guide will share information and history of the island and the native Hawaiian people and their culture.
You will also enjoy an all you want Breakfast Buffet that is included - hot, fresh and tasty! Enjoy choices such as french toast, scrambled eggs, hash browns, Portuguese sausage, port sausage patties, hot oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and beverages.
