Experience what it is like to become a scientific researcher in search of the migrating humpback whales off the coast of Mazatlan, Mexico. You will learn about the local environment along with real-time insight into the whale's ecology and behavior. There's even a hydrophone on board the whale-watching excursion boat that allows you to hear the whales as they call, and sing, to one another. Be sure to bring your camera along on this Mazatlan cruise shore excursion as well. You will have many opportunities to capture that once in a lifetime shot.

This exciting shore excursion begins when you meet with your English speaking whale watching guide just outside your Mazatlan cruise terminal. Take an air-conditioned vehicle for the 15-minute ride to the Mazatlan Marina. Once there you can use the facilities before you get on board the whale-watching vessel.

The research boat seats up to 10 passengers, so everyone is comfortable and the attention is personalized. Once everyone is settled in, then your experienced whale-watching captain will head out in search of the whales off the Mazatlan shoreline. The captain will navigate close to where the whales are most active. Although it is up to Mother Nature to decide what to show up, be prepared to see breathtaking whale spouting, partial and full breaching along with impressive tail slapping while the whales play, or males fighting for the attention of a female. Wild dolphin, other marine mammals as well as other whale species may be spotted too.

Since it is the whale breeding season there is much to see and hear, especially with the hydrophone that allows you to hear the activity below the surface. If the whale watching excursion captain sees a pod in the area, he will lower the hydrophone into the water in the hopes to capturing the eerie but beautiful whale songs. It's also not unusual to see a female nursing her calf, or swimming along with her calf to help the young one get its bearings.
